Five years ago I was a relatively new mom to a 17 month old daughter. When I first received the news that I was pregnant with twins, I was shocked, to say the least! My husband and I had just settled into life with one baby. We literally couldn’t imagine what having three kids under two years old was going to be like. Of course, as happens in parenting (and in life), we accepted our new reality and began the usual planning that goes into welcoming a new sibling into the family.
When I began to think about introducing my only child to the idea of having two new babies in the family, one of the first things that I wanted to do was to find a simple picture book on the subject. By familiarizing herself with a fictional character with a similar family to hers, she could start to imagine herself in her new role of “Big Sister of Twins.” Unfortunately, once I began to search Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and various twin parenting blogs, I came up empty handed.
Ever since then, when I’ve come across a children’s book with twins or an older sibling of twins as the main character, I’ve added it to an ongoing list. In an effort to save some of you from research that you likely don’t have time to do, below is my list so far. Please comment if you have other favorites! Happy reading!
