Twin Love Concierge’s Twin Tip of the Week – selecting safe car seats for your Twins. When choosing car seats for your multiples there are two key considerations to keep in mind when selecting, besides the general consideration of cost and compatibility with your twin stroller:

FACTOR 1

–  Multiples are often born smaller than singletons so you need to check the Minimum Weight Rating. Most car seats start at 5lbs but often twins are small and discharged from hospital from as little as 4lbs. Most convertible car seats start at 8lbs so unfortunately they aren’t an option either.

FACTOR 2

–  Next thing to consider is the Fit Factor i.e can the straps be adjusted to fit correctly around the baby, so look for lower than average bottom harness slots so that the straps can be situated “at” or slightly below the child’s shoulder level.

Our top 3 Car Seats for Twins based on all budgets include:

<$100 – Evenflo Embrace LX
$100-$200 –   Chicco Keyfit 30 or Graco Snugride 35 LX Click Connect or Maxi-Cosi Mico AP
$300 + – Cybex Aton or UppaBaby Mesa

Please know also a  Baby Trend Snap N Go  or a Joovy Roo 2  is an excellent travel system to use with carseats, super light weight and easy to pack up. Many twin parents use these for the first few weeks and even months because of the ease of use for Pediatrician appointments etc. Also allows you time to chose your stroller once the babies are born if you are undecided beforehand considering the major investment.
